Online backup appliances
Quick explanation
With an online backup appliance from WorldBackups you can be assured your servers and desktops will always be protected by the latest state-of-the-art technology running on highly available hardware and your backed-up data will be securely housed within the UK in N+1 data centres (Tier 4 also available). Your backed-up data will be stored in three different locations at any one time*; the backup appliance, on our secure network and also to a portable storage device (this device is a failsafe should the backup appliance be offline).
Backup appliances from WorldBackups are designed to be installed on a customer's premises rather than on our network, thus removing any common points-of-failure. The main benefits of this approach are; a local backup, LAN speed backups and restores as well as reduced operating costs over any tape based solution.
WorldBackup's online backup appliances provide storage from 2TB (enclosed in a single HP Proliant server) up to 450TB in a highly available 42U rack solution.
Why use a backup appliance?
Backup appliances are used to automate a company's backup strategy, maintain backup compliance and reduce administration time and operating costs. Ideally deployed where a multiple amount of LAN based clients (minimum of 10) require a centralised backup solution or the following scenarios apply.
1. You require peace-of-mind knowing your backed-up data is available locally on-site as well as remotely.
2. Your backups and restores must operate at LAN speed.
3.
You want to replicate as much data as you like for free and only pay for the backed-up data which is replicated to our network.
4. Replication flexibility is required. Our appliances can replicate to our own UK network, Amazon's S3 storage platform or to one of your other sites.
5. Internet bandwidth usage has to be controlled. Embedded QOS controls allow you to manage the amount of bandwidth used and at which times replication occurs.
6. A fully managed backup solution is mandatory.

Support, support and support
As the well-worn IT phrase goes 'Anyone can backup but only heroes can restore!'
Proactive monitoring
What good is a backup appliance if you can't back up to it? Whereas our backup appliances are designed to run 24x7, we know failures occur, power and Ethernet cables are unplugged and sometimes things are just turned off. Not to mention planned outages on the local site which require the appliance to be shut down.
So that our NOC staff can be made aware of any impending outages, we use GFI's software monitoring along with the HP SIM server monitoring tools embedded on the server.
This approach allows us to proactively monitor your appliance 24x7.
When it goes wrong!
We are prepared for all of these outages which is why your backup sets will be configured to not only backup to the appliance but they will also silently backup to a portable storage device*. So if your backup appliance is ever offline, you know your data is still being backed up to a physical location independent of your server.
Your backup appliance(s) will be remotely monitored 24x7 using GFI's network monitoring software. In the event of a system anomaly we will take remedial action and if a hardware failure has occurred we will despatch a server engineer to resolve any hardware issues.
Zero-effort
WorldBackups' staff will configure all of your backup sets without you having to lift a finger. We will monitor your backup appliance's health and all of the associated clients backing up to it 24 x 7. Once you receive an email or system alert identifying one of your clients has a problem backing up we will resolve this for you remotely.

Pricing
'Most 'prepared for' disasters don't ever occur. Which I guess is why insurance companies are still in business' - Mark Tomlinson.
With that in mind isn't it reassuring to know that we only charge for recovery services when they are required and not monthly when things are running well?
